Acer campestre — Field Maple

A very common lowland tree, and the only maple native to Britain.

The opposite leaves are smaller than Sycamore and Norway Maple and more rounded. The buds are also small for a maple. Sparse erect yellow-green flowerheads are produced as the leaves emerge. The paired winged fruit (samaras) are at 180 degrees to each other.

f. fastigiatum includes a number of clones with more vertical branching.
