Alnus incana — Grey Alder

A fairly frequent amenity tree, introduced from Europe in the late-18th century.

The pointed and strongly toothed alternate leaves are distinctive. The typical green catkins have yellow flowers in late winter. Green cones ripen brown and woody. Buds are stalked.
