Cryptomeria japonica — Japanese Red Cedar
An uncommon Victorian introduction.
A large tree with forward-pointing needles all around the shoots and with complex spherical cones.
‘Elegans’ is a much more common bushy cultivar which has soft juvenile foliage with long, individual needles which turn copper-coloured in winter.
