Larix kaempferi — Japanese Larch

A Victorian introduction, common in forestry plantations.

The deciduous needles are in rosettes. Buds are small and knobbly. Male flowers are like those of other larches; female flowers are green. The cones are spherical and have scales whose tips curl sharply outwards and downwards.
