Magnolia grandiflora — Southern Evergreen Magnolia

A fairly common 18th century introduction from America.

The alternate evergreen leaves are glossy on top, but with rusty undersides when young. Large white flowers are produced in the latter half of the year, and give rise to ovoid green fruit.
