Pyrus communis — Common Pear
A common very early introduction, probably originally from the Near East.
The alternate leaves are shiny and usually oval but pointed. The highly distinctive bark is grey and square-cracked. Buds are brown and pointed. The fruit of non-cultivated forms is more or less rounded, with only a slight tapering at the base.
