Quercus petraea — Sessile Oak

The ‘other’ native oak, common particularly in hilly areas.

The alternate leaves are lobed like those of English Oak but are rather larger and shinier, and have good-sized stalks. The buds are fat and usually clustered at the shoot ends. The acorns are stalkless.
