Sambucus nigra — Elder
A very common native small tree.
The opposite pinnate leaves usually have five or seven toothed leaflets. Flowers appear in flat, white umbels in early summer and give rise to red-stalked black berries. Buds are spiky and begin to expand in winter, giving them a half-unpacked appearance.
