Sequoia sempervirens — Coast Redwood
A rather infrequent mid-19th century introduction from the west coast of America, the world's tallest tree (but not in Britain!)
The mature tree has a rather thin, open appearance. The leaves are rather yew-like, except near the tips of young shoots, where they are arranged radially. The cones are just 2cm in length.
‘Adpressa’ is an uncommon form with smaller leaves, white-banded above.
‘Cantab’ is a rare form with very broad leaves.
