Tilia americana — American Lime

An increasingly frequent mid 18th-century introduction.

The alternate leaves are larger than those of Common Lime, larger-toothed, and obliquely slanted across the base. The buds are usually red. The flowers hang and give rise to largish, downy fruit.

‘Dentata’ has whiskered teeth.
