This text represents the first 10% of a mammoth 75-minute account of the economic and cultural life of the Tujia. Mr Peng describes the annual Spring shebajie festival, which is centred round the baishouwu (literally 'hand-waving') dance. The story is continued in the next text. Note the relatively high frequency of Chinese loan words used in this text, even by such a fluent Tujia speaker.

14	pu³sa³ da³-diu² la! B: kei³ ya? A: ai¹ da³-diu², da³-diu², da³-diu², pu³sa³ da³-diu² wa, suan²ming¹ seng³xian³ ba³ da³-liao³! 菩萨下来了！B：哪里呀？A：那菩萨开始下来、下来、下来了。算命子神仙下山了！ The gods have come down!
