Abies alba — European Silver Fir

The first fir to be grown in Britain (from the early 1600s), and formerly an important forestry tree.

The 2-3cm leaves are forward-angled and rise above the shoot, and have two white bands beneath; the cones are 10-15cm long, green at first, then brown when ripe.
