Fraxinus ornus — Manna Ash

An early introduction from the Eastern Mediterranean region, widely grown in parks and streets, and an unmistakeable tree when in flower.

The opposite pinnate leaves have stalked leaflets whose common stalk is kinked. Buds are woolly and grey-brown. The spectacular flowers hide the foliage at the end of spring, and give rise to typical ash keys.
