Prunus laurocerasus — Cherry Laurel

A common Elizabethan introduction from the Near East, usually bushy but forming a squat tree.

The alternate evergreen leaves are glossy and widest nearer the tip. The bark is smooth and dark grey. Erect heads of white flowers are produced in spring and give rise to black cherries.
