Prunus lusitanica — Portuguese Laurel
A common 17th century introduction, widely naturalised.
The alternate glossy evergreen leaves are widest halfway and are red-stalked. Long curving tails of white flowers are produced at the beginning of summer and give rise to small black cherries.
