Taxodium distichum — Swamp Cypress

A rather uncommon mid-17th century introduction from America.

The mature tree is typically a tall, narrow spire. When grown in very wet conditions, pneumatophore ‘knees’ are produced. The deciduous leaves are on alternate side-shoots (cf. Dawn Redwood), and yield a soft, light-green foliage.
