Tsuga heterophylla — Western Hemlock

A mid-19th century introduction, common in forestry plantations.

The leaves are like those of Common Yew but smaller and crisper. The leaf undersides have bright white paired bands. Random leaves on top of the shoot are held upside-down. The cones are like small spruce cones.
