Parrotia persica — Persian Ironwood
A fairly uncommon mid-19th century introduction.
The alternate leaves are a distinctive irregular ovoid shape. The bark is like a finer version of that of London Plane. Buds are small and purplish. The reddish-purple flowers in early spring give rise to globose green fruit with small tassels on top.
