Prunus spinosa — Blackthorn
A common and often dominant native hedgerow tree or bush.
The alternate leaves are small and wrinkled, and with sharp teeth. Many side-shoots have fierce spines. The whitish flowers open before the leaves, whitening the hedgerows after Myrobalan Plum and before Hawthorn. Bloomed sloes ripen blue-black in autumn.
